The SSYT’s 18 month course is for qualified yoga teachers to gain confidence in assessing and working with individual clients from a yoga therapy perspective and to implement yoga therapy safely and in accordance with professional codes of practice. The course is intended to facilitate participants to develop a personal, holistic style and to devise yoga therapy programmes for each individual client’s needs.
Sue will be the main tutor on the weekends. She is an experienced yoga teacher, yoga therapist and has training and experience in other psychological and body based therapies. John will teach the anatomy and physiology components of the course. We will also invite visiting tutors, experienced in their specialised fields or working with groups of people with specific conditions, to join us on some of the weekends.
The framework of the koshas plus yoga’s subtle energy systems and working with the individual form the basis of the course. Anatomy, physiology and pathology of the main body systems is another important element of the course as well as eastern and western psychological models.
There will be a slightly different format for the 2018-19 training. The course will takes place over 7 weekends in the Scottish Borders, the first of which will be Thursday – Monday. The 4 day residential weekend (Friday – Monday) will be organised once numbers are confirmed. The residential will nurture the already experienced yoga teachers’ individual practice and encourage their exploration of a deeper pranayama and meditation practice which in turn will inform their experience and practice as therapists. SSYT recognises that meditation is an invaluable tool and powerful catalyst for bringing about change in ourselves and the wider community.
